More and more women have started to use Botox over recent years as it has become cheaper and also as women are getting more confident to use it with no medical side effects etc. and is usually about
£200 for a treatment depending on how much is being done. However is has been stated recently that people that are using Botox regularly to try and stop the effects of ageing could in fact be throwing away their money as they may start to become immune to the injections scientists have warned recently.
What they are basically saying is that the drug neurotoxin is not freezing the muscles in the facial area as they did before and the effects will not last as long. This is due to the fact the women’s bodies will produce antibodies to the treatment which will mean that it could stop working altogether.
A recent survey conducted in Germany has found that 1 out of every 200 users of botox treatment are developing antibodies to the treatment which will make the treatment less effective as time goes on. In the Uk the Botox industry has become very big and it is worth about £18 million with patients paying up to £200 for one injection.
The basic way that the treatment works is that it stops chemical reactions taking place in the muscles which basically paralyzing them and stops them contracting. The best known brand if made by a company called Allergan in the States and a spokesman for a company said that this is possible to happen but very rare.
